(UNIT 21) 8. Response to the client brief

Explanation of demographics
The brief that the client has set, wants us to make a thriller appropriate for the ages of 16 to 24. This would mean i would have to follow the requirements from the BBFC and MPAA to follow what they say is appropriate for those ages. From what BBFC states, they have the age ratings of 15, 18 and R18. From what MPAA say, they have R rating and NC17.
I will include young characters at the same age as the audience to make it more realistic and make it look like the same will happen to them. It would also have to be interesting as younger audiences tend to have less interest than the older age group. The language style would also need to be the same e.g informal language since that is what young age groups use now and there is a lack of formal language. The clothing would also relate to younger audiences like tracksuits and this would help the audience the clearly relate to them.
With this audience, its easy to get them to relate to whatever is around their age group. This is becuase they like to see their age group in films and it would relate to them. Also if you include music they like e.g. grime/rap then they would start to bop their heads and dance in their seats to get them engaged and interested and want them to carry on watching the movie. An example of a movie is the movie 'Attack on the block'. 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3tOFejxPH0' At 0:19 we can see a group of mischievous young kids which gets the audience interested as its their age group. At 0:21 the boys start talking in informal language, the language used by all young kids now which will make the audience off their seats as they know its relateable. This is done throughout the whole movie.
The challenges that will come up for this specific audience is to get them interested the first 10 seconds of the movie and not make them want to fall asleep in the movie. This is becuase kids have a lack of interest and if its interesting, it would want the audience to want to watch it more.

Conventions
In a  few thriller trailers that i have studied, most of them have dark scenes and they flash a lot.
